Healthy Food, Thriving Communities; Food as Medicine
You may have heard of 'food pharmacies' or 'food as medicine' and wondered what these buzz words are about. Through hospital or community programs, people in health and/or financial straits may be able to get a prescription for farm shares of organic vegetables; in other words, healthy food is considered to be a vital part of healing.
On Monday, February 24 from 6:30-8pm at the Jericho Community Center, Transition Town Jericho, in their ongoing series on resiliency topics, hosts Melissa Needham of the Vermont Dept of Health, in a talk: Healthy Food, Thriving Communities; Food as Medicine
"Food as Medicine" is a holistic approach to preventing, managing, and treating chronic diseases through nutrition and food. This session, Healthy Food, Thriving Communities: Supporting Wellness through Food as Medicine, delves into the transformative role of nutrition in improving individual and community health outcomes. It also highlights successful models of Food as Medicine programs. Melissa Needham is a Public Health Specialist at the Burlington District Office of the Vermont Department of Health, focusing in Healthy Communities.
Hope you can join us at the Jericho Community Center on Monday February 24, from 6:30-8pm for this presentation. There is wheelchair access. Refreshments will be provided. RSVP requested: Ttjericho.VT@gmail.com
