Mosquitos: the Good and the Bad

Feb 13, 2025, 7 to 8:30 PM

Craig Zondag, the Field Coordinator and Biologist for the Lemon Fair Insect Control District will teach us about mosquito biology, measures used to monitor and control them, and what makes a good year for them, and a bad year for us. A pinned collection of 37 species of mosquitoes will be on display and a stereo microscope will be set up to look at them. Be awed by the sapphire scales in the "Heaven mosquito."

The Lemon Fair Insect Control District is poised this year to exercise Best Management Practices. Learn what that looks like and what it could possibly mean for the greater State of Vermont.

Are mosquitoes a problem around your house? Most people are unaware that they are providing breeding habitat on their properties for mosquitoes. Learn what to look for and become empowered to reduce the presence of mosquitoes on your property without the use of caustic pesticides.

Craig attended the University of Wisconsin at Steven's Point and now lives in New Haven, VT.

This presentation is part of the Salisbury Conservation Commission's Thursday Presentation Series. All presentations are free and open to the public. They generally last about 1 hour with time for questions afterward. Please join us.
