Hi everyone. The next community potluck supper will be on Valentines Day! Come join your neighbors for a special celebration of community. We always love to see families with kids come through the doors. Parents, this one will be an especially fun supper, featuring a chocolate fountain!
I am definitely looking forward to it as I had to miss the last one, due to a scratchy throat. I did set up ahead of time and made the soup (wearing a mask the whole time) but was so grateful to Jennifer LeStat and Suzanne Manzinelli for agreeing to step in and facilitate for me. Right as folks were arriving, I was getting ready to leave, but I did get a chance to see some new faces come through the door. I hope you come back next time so I can meet you properly!
I was especially sorry to miss the "Spotlight" portion of the evening. For this one, Katie Spring and her son Waylon were going to be our neighbors in the spotlight. Though I missed their presentations, I heard great things about them. One person said she was inspired by Katie's talk to look up her work online. I too checked out her website, and was deeply moved by her writing. (Here's a link to a powerful piece she wrote after the flood of 2023.) https://katiespring.substack.com/p/we-speak-the-words-we-need
I love getting to know my neighbors better through sharing a meal, whether it's at the community lunch or the potluck supper. It's been especially gratifying getting to know some on an even deeper level through the "Spotlight" presentations. My life has been enriched by my introduction to Katie's writing. And now, when I drive past Wrightsville , it makes me happy just seeing all the cars parked at the side of the road for Disc golf. I picture Waylon running around out there in the woods, having a great time enjoying his favorite sport.
Hope to see you soon,
Laura Atkinson
