Jesse Haas on the Three Westminsters

Jan 28, 2025, 5 to 6:30 PM

When the Westminster Inclusion Committee approached Jesse Haas about offering a presentation on the histories of Westminster and Westminster West she was quick to respond that we mustn't forget NORTH Westminster! Thus the THREE WESTMINSTERS presentation came to be scheduled for next Tuesday, January 28 from 5 to 6:30pm at the Butterfield Library on Route 5 in Westminster.

Jessie Haas grew up on a small farm in Westminster, VT. After attending Wellesley College she and her husband Michael J. Daley built a tiny cabin in the woods using only hand tools. Living off-grid and on a small scale allowed the couple to be full-time activists and writers. Haas has won several distinguished awards as the author of 40 books for children and adults. Her books for adults include two local histories, Revolutionary Westminster, and Westminster VT, 1738-200; Township No. One. She is currently working on a young adult novel centered on the Westminster Massacre and Fanny Montresor, who was a 15-year old resident of Westminster in 1775, and who would later marry Ethan Allen.

This event is organized by local leaders and librarians and part of a series by the Westminster Inclusion Committee which was formed after last year's town meeting at which the town's Declaration of Inclusion was ratified. Since then the committee has developed a "One Wonderful Westminster" campaign intended to bring friends, neighbors and strangers together.

This fascinating presentation will bring to light some of the of the stories of struggle and strength which have made the "town" what it is today. Everyone is welcome and refreshments will be served.
