In this webinar, Dr. Samantha Alger of the Vermont Bee Lab will introduce the diversity of Vermont's bees, their importance, and their major threats with a focus on pesticides. Bees and other pollinators such as moths, butterflies, beetles, and flies play a role in one out of every three bites of food we eat, and current research shows that bee populations are declining rapidly. Samantha has studied how pesticides are contributing to this decline and putting our food supplies and general environmental health at risk. Taking action in Vermont on this problem has been made possible in part due to Samantha's ongoing research at UVM.
Samantha Alger, PhD, is a research assistant professor at the University of Vermont where she conducts research on bee disease, teaches beekeeping courses, and directs the Vermont Bee Lab. She provided expert testimony to the Vermont Legislature on Bill H.706, the Pollinator Protection Bill, which passed into law in June, 2024.
