Outdoor Adventure Speaker Series: Emily Halnon

Jan 23, 2025, 7 to 8 PM

Seeking some inspiration this chilly winter? Join the Green Mountain Club for the annual winter speaker series, featuring stories of adventure, athleticism, science, and growth. Programs are free to attend and open to all.

Join trail runner and bestselling author Emily Halnon for "Wide, Open Spaces: Why Trails and the Outdoors are Vital Places for Processing our Hardest Emotions" on Thursday, January 23 in the Meeting Hall at GMC Headquarters in Waterbury Center at 7 p.m. When Emily lost her mother, Andrea, to a rare uterine cancer, she went after the speed record on the 460-mile stretch of Oregon's Pacific Crest Trail to celebrate her mom's life — and to process the grief of losing her. Emily, who grew up in Lincoln, Vermont and authored the bestselling memoir, "To the Gorge," will share stories from her record-breaking run across Oregon and her journey through grief, and offer insights into why trails and the outdoors are such valuable spaces for processing our hardest emotions.

Join us for a hiker social hour in our new visitor center starting at 6:30 before the event begins at 7 p.m. Registration is free and open to all. Visit GMC's website to register and view this year's full speaker series lineup: www.greenmountainclub.org/education/events-workshops/
