Winter Evening with Aaron Weed at TPL This Friday!

Past event
Jan 17, 2025, 7 to 8:30 PM

The Tunbridge Conservation Commission is excited to welcome our first of three local experts to the Tunbridge Public Library this Friday at 7pm as part of our Winter Evenings series. Local biologist Aaron Weed will present on "Bird Monitoring in Our Local National Parks." More info below!

All are welcome, refreshments are provided, and the events are free – donations graciously accepted!

Aaron Weed is a Biologist and Program Manager responsible for planning and coordinating all aspects of the Northeast Temperate Network (NETN) inventory and monitoring program for the National Park Service. Aaron will present on how the Northeast Temperate Network (NETN) helps its 13 member parks better understand the health of their biological communities (forests, birds, etc), waters, and other natural resources through long-term monitoring and periodic inventories. The mission of the NETN is to collect, manage, and translate high quality information about the condition of natural resources so that our national parks can make better-informed management decisions.

Prior to joining the NPS 10 years ago, Aaron held research positions at Dartmouth College and the University of Idaho studying the ecology of invasive insects, invasive plants, and forest insects relevant to the management of forests, rangelands, and natural areas. Aaron's expertise began in entomology but recent work has shifted to studying how environmental stressors affect the diversity and abundance of forest vegetation, coastal waterbirds and landbirds. He lives in Tunbridge and enjoys spending time with his family hiking, skiing, exploring forests, and fishing.

We look forward to seeing you this Friday at the Tunbridge Public Library!

And, mark your calendars for our next two talks in this series, also at 7pm at the TPL:
February 7th - "Protecting Vermont's Ecosystem - Backyard Strategies for Corridor Conservation" with Emily Ruff from Sage Mountain Botanical Sanctuary

March 7th - "Understanding bats through their ecology" with Adam Kozlowski from the National Park Service
