The ancient founding Irish in County Limerick started with a non-hierarchical society on an island... now a peninsula... in Lough Gur, in around 3200 BC. Two thousand years later they had evolved into a seemingly mythological society called the Tuath Dé Danann.
On Tuesday evening at 6:30, at Plainfield's Cutler Library, we'll look more closely at that ancient Ireland as it is seen on (and under) the ground. Come to the Cutler and hear about some of our discoveries. Regular Vermonters helped out on the archaeological team and signed up as volunteers.
I will be introducing an 11-trip archaeological survey (between 2003 and 2014) focussed on SW Ireland between 1650 and 1150 BC. Archaeology can be sort of dry as a topic, but not when the subject are the Bronze Age Irish people.
