Hello neighbors! This coming Saturday, 1/4/25, is the annual Hinesburg Winter Bird Count, formally known as the Christmas Bird Count, a National Audubon birding tradition for over a century. Here is a link if you'd like to learn more: https://www.audubon.org/community-science/christmas-bird-count
There are 23 circles in Vermont, each one conducting their survey over a 24-hour period (within a two week time period from Mid December to early January). The Hinesburg circle is a designated 15 mile diameter circle , divided into sectors, and includes Hinesburg, Huntington, Richmond and Starksboro. Traditionally, it is held on the last Saturday of the two-week period.
Like previous years, I will be trawling for birds in the Hanksville area, as well as Big Hollow and Hinesburg Hollow. You may see my white Subaru, plate: JABIRU, or a few folks out walking the roads. There will be other teams out there as well in their vehicles. If you see us, and have feeders, we'd love it if you'd come out to say hi and perhaps invite us "around back" if we can't see feeders from the road.
Please send me an email if you have any questions, concerns, or if you'd like to join us next year!
