On January 9 at 1:00 in the RFL Community Room, naturalist Chip Darmstadt from the North Branch Nature Center will take us on a virtual tour of Japan's most breathtaking destinations and iconic biodiversity.
Winter in Japan is a fairytale of stunning birdlife, fascinating wildlife, dramatic landscapes, and magnificent culture. As the season's first snow falls in Hokkaido, Chip will share images and tales of the endangered Blakiston's Fish-Owls hunting along their streamside fishing grounds, thousands of elegant White-naped Cranes erupting from their morning roosts and Mandarin Ducks paddling through serene mountain lakes.
Whether it's Steller's Sea-Eagles fishing along the coast or Japanese Macaques (Japan's famous "snowvmonkeys") lounging in steamy hot springs, the enchanting backdrop for this armchair journey is a tapestry of 500-year-old castles, farm fields, temples, and fascinating culture.
