English Country Dance with Live Music

Jan 3, 2025, 6:30 to 9 PM

Is "get off the couch" on your list of New Year's resolutions? If so, why not try English country dancing? It's a form of social dance that stretches back to Elizabethan times and was popular when Jane Austen wrote "Pride and Prejudice" and "Emma". It's endured and evolved over the centuries -- and you can attend a dance right here in Vermont, on your own, with a partner, or with some friends. Here's a TikTok video posted by someone who tried and discovered that they liked English country dancing: https://www.tiktok.com/t/ZTYtTxLWp/

On Friday, January 3rd, move to beautiful music by pianist Aaron Marcus, joined by the Larks in the Attic (Pam Bockes on guitar, Susan Reid on violin, and Linda Young on harp). Val Medve will teach and walk-through each dance, then will prompt as you dance to the music. All instruction is non-gendered.

Best suited for teens and adults with the ability to walk briskly. Wear casual, comfortable clothing and shoes with low heels (flip flops don't work!) Newcomers are welcome - come for the lesson at 6:30pm and then dance to live music at 7pm. $10-$15 sliding scale (pay what you can). Bring your own filled water bottle.
