On Saturday, December 21 at 10:00 am, the Walloomsac River and Downtown Walk will highlight an individual and an organization working on behalf of the community. The walk will include a presentation of the Bennington Unsung Hero Award, which recognizes individuals who have quietly gone above and beyond on behalf of our community. The walk will conclude at the Better Bennington Corporation (BBC) to recognize their ongoing support and advocacy of the Bennington downtown.
Bill Clark will receive this month's Unsung Hero award. A familiar face in downtown Bennington through his work for the Better Bennington Corporation, Bill volunteers in a number of different capacities. He has been a volunteer firefighter for seven years and is currently the captain of the Eagle Hose Company. Bill volunteers at Harvest House Soup Kitchen. Since 2010, Bill has been a volunteer for the Bennington Garlic Festival. People who know Bill are quick to recount the many ways he goes above and beyond in all things he contributes to. Please join us in honoring Bill and celebrating his significant service to our community.
December's walk will begin at 10 AM at the Rotary/Bennington Station Park on Depot Street between Main Street and River Street. We will meet in the parking lot behind MSK Engineering and proceed along the Riverwalk to Park Street. We will stop by the Walloomsac Apartments at the memorial to Emily Hamann to present the Unsung Hero award. The walk will conclude at the BBC's Welcome Center at 215 South Street for light refreshments.
Walloomsac Walks take place on the third Saturday of each month. Please note that the walks begin at 10:00 a.m. from November through March and in spring and summer they begin at the earlier 9:00 a.m. hour. The walks are pet-friendly, and people of all ages are invited to come out and enjoy this ongoing community event. In the case of inclement weather, cancellation notices will be placed on Front Porch Forum and the Bennington Blotter.
