The 125th Christmas Bird Count (CBC) starts this weekend. Counts take place one day between December 14th and January 5th, centered on specific locations. The count areas radiate out 7.5 miles from the center points and are covered by traveling teams that count all the species and birds within their portion of the circle. Traveling field counts are augmented by feeder counts conducted by residents from their homes. The CBC is the longest-running citizen science project in the nation. Four counts take place in our area: Saxtons River (14 December), Springfield (15 December), Woodstock (17 December), and Hanover/Norwich (1 January).

Weathersfield is within the count circle centered in Springfield. If you have feeders, please fill them so we can count your birds. If you see someone with binoculars checking out your feeders this Sunday, don't be alarmed. Every bird counts!
