A Board member and volunteer with the Friends of Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge, Julie Filiberti will present "Birds of the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge", highlighting stories and information about birding and efforts to protect birds and the special environment in the Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge.
The Missisquoi National Wildlife Refuge on Lake Champlain in Swanton was established in 1943 to provide habitat for migratory birds. It consists of almost 7,000 acres, mostly wetland habitats, which support a variety of migratory birds and other wildlife. Missisquoi holds the largest concentration of waterfowl on Lake Champlain, with habitats for the endangered black terns, bobolinks, meadowlarks, and other species. The wildlife refuge also is home to endangered plant species and pollinators, and a great blue heron nesting area.
This event is sponsored by the Community Senior Center. Free and open to all.
