Vermont Ski & Snowboard Museum has identified 185 of Vermont's "lost" ski areas statewide, including some that never opened, others that have re-opened and those that were never built. Today there are 20 ski areas in Vermont.
Did you know that the 2nd rope tow in Vermont was built on the Jeffersonville-Cambridge town line? That Bristol and Lincoln have a shared history of community tows? Skis were built for the 10th Mountain Division in Waterbury where there once were 4 ski areas? And that there are 5 lost areas in Stowe, 2 in Morrisville, 7 in the Mad River Valley, 6 in Barre, and some that were obliterated when I89 was built?
The "Searching for Vermont's Lost Ski Areas" exhibit opens Friday, December 6th with a free kick-off party between 5:00-8:00.
Regular hours are Thursday-Sun. 12-5. Admission is free and everyone is welcome! As we work to meet our year-end fundraising goal, donations are always appreciated!
