On December 7, come to the Rochester Public Library for a morning of Vermont author talk! You'll get to hear how the process works, what challenges there are, what is most fun–as well as excerpts from the writers' works.
Jackson Ellis is a writer and editor from Vermont who has also spent time living in Nevada and Montana. His short fiction has appeared in The Vermont Literary Review, Sheepshead Review, and many other publications. He is the co-publisher of http://verbicidemagazine.com, which he founded as a print periodical in 1999. Lords of St. Thomas is his first novel. Black Days is his second.
Black Days, out in paperback last October and shortlisted for the 2023 Bottom Drawer Prize, takes place in a town that will bring to mind a familiar place! The story of Daniel, recovering from a horrific car accident, was inspired in part by Vermont's Frozen Hill People, a 19th-century hoax. It's a thriller that will tingle your spine, in the tradition of Shirley Jackson, Hubert Selby, Jr., and James M. Cain.
"A strange and marvelously unpredictable tale... The narrative is intelligently conceived and executed, and refreshingly original. A compelling plot infused with philosophical vitality." ―Kirkus Reviews
Joining Jackson will be poet Julia C. Alter who's recently-published book Some Dark Familiar won the Sundog prize. Julia has an MFA from the Vermont College of Fine Arts. Her poetry has been nominated twice for the Pushcart Prize, and appeared widely in print and online journals including The Southern Humanities Review, The Santa Clara Review, and others. She lives in Williston.
Our very own Amy Braun will round out the morning with tales of her tales, including a work-in-progress! We are all excited to read more of Amy's wonderful writing!
There will be books to buy and have signed!
