With profound sadness, the Town of Milton announces the passing of Donald H. Turner, Jr., our dedicated Town Manager since 2017.
Don's unwavering commitment to public service and deep love for his hometown strengthened our community immeasurably. His motto, "getting stuff done," was more than mere words—it was his way of life and will remain our guiding principle.
In addition to his role as Town Manager, Don served the Milton Fire Department for 41 years, including 14 years as Chief and served as the Rescue Chief for three years. He also represented Milton in Montpelier, where he held the position of Minority Leader for several years.
Among his many achievements, Don spearheaded the construction of a fire station, a public works facility, a field house, and the rehabilitation of the Grange. He also played a pivotal role in improving infrastructure, fostering economic development, and enhancing public safety.
His leadership, positive attitude and support were instrumental in fostering a thriving workplace within the Town offices, balancing retention of talented tenured staff with thoughtful recruiting of new municipal employees. Never one to seek sole credit for progress and accomplishments, he was a constant advocate for the Town's team.
Our hearts go out to his wife Gail, their daughters Emily, Hillary, and Erin, their spouses, and their three grandchildren. We extend our deepest sympathies to his parents, Don Sr. and Nancy, his sister Lisa, and brother James, along with their families, and the entire Turner family.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, December 7th beginning at 2pm at the Donald H. Turner, Jr Public Works Building, 160 Public Works Way, Milton. The event will be available via livestream on LCATV.
We ask that the privacy of the family be respected during this difficult time.
