The Central Vermont OLLI fall series continues with three film programs at the Savoy Theater, 26 Main St., Montpelier. Rick Winston provides introductions and context.

The films are directed by Zhang Yimou, known primarily for action films such as House of Flying Daggers. He also directed more complex films about contemporary Chinese life, exploring the resilience of the Chinese people.

First of the three is Not One Less (1999), centering on a 13-year-old substitute teacher ordered not to lose any students. It addresses education reform in China after the cultural revolution, economic gaps between urban and rural populations, and bureaucracy in everyday life.
