On Monday, Nov. 18, 4-5:30 pm, a meeting will take place at the Starksboro Town Library to hear a study commissioned by the Vermont Natural Resources Council and presented by Jessica Louisos, Principal Water Resources Engineer with SLR International Corporation in Waterbury, VT. The topic is the feasibility of removing the dam at Baldwin Pond. We will also hear from Karina Dailey, Chair, VT Dam Task Force, who is a restoration ecologist with VNRC. In addition we expect to hear from people presenting options that do not involve removal of the dam. Community members who will be affected by any decisions made will be invited to speak, as will others who have pertinent factual information to contribute to the decision-making process.
The meeting is being facilitated by Margi Gregory. Although she is the chair of the Starksboro Conservation Commission, her offer to facilitate was made as a private resident of Starksboro. The dam is privately owned and therefore not technically a town matter. Above all, we will be respecting the owner's and neighbors' rights to choose their next steps. This meeting is for airing options and considering their consequences. Solutions/decisions will not happen at the meeting.
We especially encourage the following residents of Starksboro to attend:
• Anyone who lives around Baldwin Pond
• People who live downstream from Baldwin Pond
• People who have pertinent factual information to contribute to the discussion
• Concerned citizens and those on town committees who have an interest in the consequences of possible decisions and solutions.
We are in the process of setting up a Zoom option. The link will be sent out in a future posting. Notes will be taken, and the meeting may possibly be recorded. However, we encourage all stakeholders to attend the meeting in person so that you can hear well and can ask questions and make comments.
