Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum's Red Bench Speaker Series Presents "Vermont's Churchill Ettinger; 40 Years of Ski Art"
Thursday, November 14th at 7:00 PM via ZOOM..
Vermont's own Churchill Ettinger (1903-1984) was one of the most accomplished and prolific painters of skiing in the 20th century. His painting career paralleled the post war development of recreational skiing in the United States from the late 1940's through the early 1980's. Skiing was the artist's passion and in one three-year period in the 1960's he skied and painted 18 ski areas in five different countries.
Over the past two years Tom Ettinger and Curt Simonson have cataloged over 150 examples of Ettinger's ski art. They will discuss the artist's career, show examples of his ski art, and share stories from his life and career.
Curt Simonson and his wife Kate have collected 20th century American ski art for nearly 20 years. Curt researched Churchill Ettinger ski art since 2005. In the winter the family enjoys skiing at Crystal Mountain, WA.
Churchill Ettinger's son, Tom Ettinger retired as Director of Sports Illustrated Enterprises. In the winter, a passionate skier like his father, he can often be found at Stratton Mountain skiing the same trails his father so loved. Tom manages the artist's estate.
This virtual event starts at 7:00 PM via ZOOM. A Q&A will follow. Virtual Red Bench events are free, however, we ask that you make a $10 donation to help support the museum's mission to "collect, preserve, and celebrate Vermont's rich skiing and snowboarding history."
