Aurora Singers: the Greatest Concert of All Time

Past event

The Aurora Chamber Singers, legendary vocal group based out of Burlington, will be holding their fall concert this Saturday at the College Street Congregational Church in Burlington. This will be the final concert directed by renowned choral director and organist David Neiweem; he will be retiring and moving to another state thereafter. (I am a member of the alto section.)

The theme of the concert is "Wake Every Breath". The program features sacred choral music by three composers- Johann Sebastian Bach, Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, and William Billings–all with very different world views.

Bach, a devoted Lutheran, wrote his cantata Nun Comm, Der Heiden Heiland, to be performed on the first Sunday of Advent and it was first performed in Weimar in 1714.

The Mozart Missa Brevis was composed when he was 18 years old. His personal style was already developed, but this graceful and joyous work has lots of syncopation and surprising melodies.

William Billings (1746-1800, born and died in Boston) was self-taught and the first American choral composer. Noted for his strong rhythmic vitality and straightforward harmonies, his compositions reflected both his faith and his commitment to the American Revolution.

We look forward to sharing this glorious music with you!!
