Hello, friends and neighbors – Over a hundred years ago, people around the U.S. started counting birds in mid-winter. The Audubon Christmas Bird Count or in some circles known as Winter Bird Count or other inclusive titles, now covers most of North American and has expanded to over a dozen other countries, and the yearly data has provided scientists with invaluable information about bird populations and locations. This year, on the 125th Audubon CBC, Vermonters of all ages will be counting birds as they drive, snowshoe, hike, walk, and watch backyard feeders. On Saturday December 21, you may see slow-moving cars and/or folks with binoculars inside a designated 15-mile circle including parts of Cambridge, Westford, Milton, Fairfax, Fletcher, Underhill, Jericho and Jeffersonville. Feel free to flag us down and tell us about interesting birds you've seen in your towns or fields or forests or backyards!
