Dear Singers!

I'm thrilled to announce the return of gatherings for "spontaneous community singing," starting this Monday, Nov. 11th. We'll be gathering 6:45 - 8:45pm at our wonderful new Montpelier Performing Arts Hub on 35 College St, Montpelier.

In a supportive, playful, and judgment-free space, this gathered group is invited to explore interweaving musical patterns, rhythms, harmonies, melodies, movement, percussive sounds and more, co-creating music in the moment. We draw on the work of Bobby McFerrin's 'Circle Singing,' Rhiannon's 'Vocal River,' and Zuza Gonçalves' 'Musica do Circulo,' among other inspiring teachers. Their models invite us into the magic of collaborative vocal improv in different ways, and support our building new skills along the way.

NO experience with improvisation necessary, though comfort with signing/music is supportive. If you enjoy humming a made-up melody as you go through your day, and feel basically comfortable singing a part alongside others singing something a little different, you have the foundation you need for this. Come give it a try!

While we are, no doubt, all processing the news of the week in different ways, one thing I feel as clearly as ever is the need for us to come together and SING. I feel the deep importance of connecting by making beauty, sharing our voices, seeing and hearing one another, and supporting/joining with one another. This practice of making music together helps me remember what matters most.
