Holiday Music Throughout The Ages

Next weekend, check out the Vermont Choral Union as it presents its annual inspirational concert for the holidays. At 3 PM Sunday at Burlington's Cathedral Church of St. Paul, enjoy songs from ancient to modern times with the 34 member a cappella group. Songs will include a broad range, including 13th-century pieces from medieval Europe, traditional German and British carols, including those sung by combat troops 100 years ago during World War I's Christmas truce, and contemporary work by Vermonter Michael Close. I sing baritone with the group, and I have to say that I've been especially impressed with the Michael Close piece that was specifically composed for us and which uses handbells and 'cello.
