The Colchester-Milton Rotary is celebrating its 5th anniversary of the "Flas For heroes" Project. We have American Flags flying at two locations: Charlebois Trucking in Milton and Dick Mazza's Store in Colchester. We host a Veterans Day celebration each year to honor both our veterans, community leaders and the often overlooked everyday heroes.
This year, we will be recognizing two special community heroes with a Rotary Paul Harris Award for outstanding community service. Ret. Col./Father John G. Feltz, the recently retired longtime pastor of St. Ann's parish in Milton and Mike Cannon, head of the Technical Rescue team in Colchester are this year's honorees.
The Flags for Heroes project has raised $17000 dollars over the years and we have given that money back to the community through youth leadership training, scholarships, flood relief assistance, blood drives, community food shelves and other community needs as they arise.
Each flag displayed has a personalized plaque attached that recognizes a veteran, special responder, community hero or family member indicating their accomplishments in a very personal way. It is a moving tribute to see the breeze lifting the flags and the sun setting each day in a very special person's flag.
We invite you to join us as we recognize and celebrate our local heroes this Saturday, November 9th. Teh ceremonies will be held at 10:00 AM at Charlebois in Milton and at 12 Noon at Dick Mazza's in Colchester.
We hope you can join us!
