Arista Alanis
Exhibit Dates: November 3 - December 11, 2024
Reception: November 15 from 4-6PM
Arista Alanis is a third-generation Mexican American who spent most of her youth growing up in the suburbs of Houston, Texas. She received her BFA in painting from Texas Woman's University in Denton, TX, and MFA from Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, LA. Her artwork has been exhibited nationally since 1989.
She moved to Vermont in 1995 as a staff artist at the Vermont Studio Center (VSC) after having been a resident in 1994. In 2003, she began working as the Coordinator for VSC's partnership with the elementary school art program supporting children in expressing themselves artistically. After running the school arts program for twenty years, her time is now split between the studio and ongoing work at VSC to have more time in the studio. She has been the featured artist in Iterant, Quarterly Poetry and Art (Spring issue, 2023) and her artwork was selected for the book cover of Ross Gay's Catalog of Unabashed Gratitude.
Alanis is a Vermont Arts Council FY2024 Creation Grantee. Her exhibits this year include: a solo show at Iridian Gallery at Diversity Richmond (Richmond, Virginia) 2024 and a two person show at Ava Gallery and Art Center (Lebanon, New Hampshire) 2024. Recent shows also include Mountains at Collioure, organized by Jared Quinton (2022) and Made in Vermont, at the Hall Art Foundation in Vermont (2019). She continues to live and work in Northern Vermont, where she can be found painting, running, and taking endless walks.
