The Trapp Family Lodge and Stowe Cinema in partnership with the Vermont Ski and Snowboard Museum are thrilled to announce a unique and inspiring event showcasing the remarkable WWII ski legacy through Chris Anthony's Mission Mt. Mangart tour. Led by acclaimed filmmaker, skier, and historian Chris Anthony, this exclusive evening promises to transport attendees to the incredible, untold story of the U.S. Army's 10th Mountain Division and their heroic achievements on the slopes of Mt. Mangart.
The free to attend discussion will be at Trapp Family Lodge in the Mozart Room. The von Trapp family has ties to the 10th Mountain Division with Rupert and Werner von Trapp as members of the unit. The Mission Mt. Mangart discussion will include a Q&A session with Chris Anthony followed by a separately ticketed ($15 per person) screening of the award-winning documentary Mission Mt. Mangart at Stowe Cinema. The film delves into the adventurous, yet poignant tale of the 10th Mountain Division's 1945 alpine ski race held on the border of Italy and Yugoslavia, capturing the bravery, camaraderie, and skill of the troops who pioneered mountain warfare and later brought their expertise back to transform American skiing culture.
The evening will offer attendees the chance to engage with Anthony as he shares insights from his extensive research and personal experiences filming Mission Mt. Mangart and discover the enduring impact of these WWII veterans on skiing and mountain sports. Guests can look forward to an evening filled with inspiration, history, and the legacy of perseverance that resonates deeply with skiers and outdoor enthusiasts alike.
