WHAT DOES DATA SOUND LIKE?
We live by the numbers, so we are always looking for new ways to deliver, explain and tell the stories we can extrapolate from the numbers in data. Music – yes, music – opens up a whole new world of possibilities! Data sonification is the process of transforming data into sound. Just as we can visualize data by creating charts, lines and graphs, we can "sonify" data by transforming numbers into pitches, rhythms and sounds. How is a speadsheet turned into sound? And how does it sound? Come hear some sample pieces, including one LaRoca himself composed.
