English Country Dance with Live Music

Past event
Nov 1, 2024, 6:30 to 9 PM

Dance away all those Halloween candy calories while moving to wonderful music by Joanne Garton (violin), Aaron Marcus (piano), and Will Patton (mandolin). Martha Kent and Val Medve will teach and walk-through each dance, then will prompt as you dance to the music. All instruction is non-gendered. For this evening, Halloween-inspired costumes, accessories, or colors are welcome, but not required.

Best suited for teens and adults with the ability to walk briskly. Attend with or without a partner; we'll change partners throughout the evening. Wear casual, comfortable clothing and shoes with low heels (flip flops don't work!) Newcomers are welcome - come for the lesson at 6:30pm and then dance to live music at 7pm. $10-$15 sliding scale (pay what you can). Bring your own filled water bottle.

What is English country dancing? It's a form of social dance that's similar to contra dancing and square dancing, but with more variety in the movements, patterns, and (live!) music. It has a rich history that stretches back to the times of Queen Elizabeth I and Jane Austen.
