Day of the Dead (Dia de los Muertos) is a traditional Mexican holiday where families welcome back the souls of their deceased relatives for an evening of remembrance and celebration. Graves & Ofrendas (alters) are decorated to honor beloved family members that have passed with bright marigolds, photos of the departed and their favorite foods and drinks. The offerings are believed to encourage visits from the land of the dead as the departed souls hear their prayers, smell their foods and join in the celebrations.
Please join us to celebrate the lives of those we love & have lost. There will be oferendas set up to display your photographs of loved ones, luminerias around and throughout the cemetery, snacks & warm drinks, music and more. If you have loved ones buried at Oakwood Cemetery, you are encouraged to decorate their graves, bringing offerings of food, drink and or objects that were meaningful to them.
More information can be found at OAKWOOD Day of the Dead on Facebook.
