Montpelier, Vermont— The Cerutti-Reid Duo, featuring acclaimed Vermont musicians Alison Bruce Cerutti (piano) and Elizabeth Reid (viola), will present an extraordinary program of contemporary and classical works at Christ Church Montpelier on Friday, November 1st, 2024, at 7:30 p.m.

The concert will feature two premieres by Vermont composer Carol Wood and North Carolina composer Heather Niemi Savage, alongside pieces by Benjamin Britten and Rebecca Clarke. Tickets are $25/15, and free for students and people with limited means.

The concert, When at Last I Join, showcases a compelling range of works, including the premiere of Carol Wood's Women of Chaucer for solo piano (2024). Women of Chaucer explores five of Chaucer's intriguing characters, contrasting the tragic Criseyde with the bold Wife of Bath, while also capturing the unique charm of Alison from the Miller's Tale and the vapidity of the Prioress. The suite incorporates medieval melodies and playful references to musical birds, bringing these timeless figures to life through music.

Heather Niemi Savage's I Will Still Rejoice (2023), for solo viola also premiering in this concert, reflects the composer's exploration of perseverance through difficult times. I Will Still Rejoice is inspired by the resilience of the prophet Habakkuk, who finds hope and perseverance amid devastation. This piece for solo viola expresses the determination to find joy even in the most difficult of circumstances.

The Cerutti-Reid Duo will also perform Benjamin Britten's Lachrymae and Rebecca Clarke's Sonata for Viola and Piano, a pillar of the viola repertoire since 1919.
