Wood Turtles: Ecology and Conservation of a Rare Turtle in Vermont

One of Vermont's most secretive and charismatic animals is the Wood Turtle. Feeding extensively on land, Wood Turtles roam great distances from the valley streams where they overwinter. With many river valleys bordered by roads and farms, too many of these rare turtles are killed by cars and machinery. In their dependence on conservation strategies that connect land and water resources together, Wood Turtles serve as an ambassador for river valley conservation, to the benefit of many other species of wildlife. Join Kiley Briggs, Director of Conservation for The Orianne Society, to learn more about the ecology of Wood Turtles, the work being done to save this vulnerable species, and how landowners can participate in Wood Turtle conservation. Co-hosted by LCA, Charlotte, Hinesburg, and Starksboro Conservation Commissions. Light refreshments will be available.
