Past event
Dec 1, 2014, 6 to 10 PM

Dear Neighbors,

I hope you are enjoying a wonderful and plentiful Thanksgiving weekend. We are so fortunate to live in a caring and welcoming community; there is much for which to be thankful. As this is a holiday weekend, I will try and be succinct with this preview.

On Monday, the City Council will convene its first of two meetings for the month of December.

We will begin our evening with a work session at 6pm on the pension report recently completed by the Retirement Committee. I would encourage you to read the Summary Paper that's attached to the Council documents at the end of this post.

We will begin our Council meeting at 7pm in Contois Auditorium with a resolution on studying the feasibility of divesting public funds from the fossil fuel industry. We will then move on to an open discussion on the redevelopment of the Burlington Town Center. We will be discussing the timeline for the public review and community involvement process in addition to the resolution we will be voting on at our December 15 meeting. We have two ordinance changes to vote on regarding security deposits for rental properties and Certificates of Compliance for housing. We will be voting on a resolution approving the position of Chief Innovation Officer, a resolution regarding placing the question on enabling non-citizens to serve on all City commissions and boards and serving in the capacity of department heads on the Town Meeting Day ballot, and a resolution in support of a ban on non-therapeutic uses of antibiotics in livestock production.

We will also convene a brief Board of Civil Authority and Board of Abatement of Taxes.

We will then have council committee reports, comments from councilors and the Mayor.

Please keep in mind that you are welcome to come to a council meeting and speak to the Council on any subject you wish during our Public Forum which begins at 7:30pm.

Clickable agenda items can be found on the City's website:

Please keep in mind that at all Council meetings are televised live on Channel 317 on Burlington Telecom.

As always, I welcome your questions and concerns. Please email or give me a call over the weekend or tomorrow.

My best to you and your family for a happy and healthy Thanksgiving,
Karen
