The Townshend Select Board and Townshend Historical Society extend a cordial invitation to celebrate the completion of West Townshend Stone Arch Bridge Restoration Project and the official re-opening of the bridge on Sunday, November 3rd at the bridge at the intersection of Back Windham Road & Route 30 in West Townshend.
The events start with a brief Annual Meeting of the Townshend Historical Society at 1 PM at the West Townshend Country Store. At 1:30, there will be a guided tour of the bridge on the Back Windham Road followed at 2:00 PM by a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Afterward, Contractor Brian Post of Standing Stone LLC will give a presentation at the West Townshend Country Store about the work done by his team to restore the bridge built in 1910 by Townshend resident James Otis Follett.
The project was supported by the voters of Townshend; by a Save America's Treasures Grant of Congressional-designated funds secured by VT Senator Bernie Sanders and administered by the National Park Service; by a Vermont Division for Historic Preservation 2024 Preservation Grant, and by many generous individual donors.
