Please join Nora Daniels at a reception for her exhibit at the Crowell Art Gallery, "Think Ink". Tuesday, October 29, 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm.
Playfulness, imperfection and serendipity are all words describing Nora Daniel's love of drawing with ink, with its earthy smell, beautiful grays and powerful blacks and the energizing effect watercolor brings to her images. "Playing with water based mediums can render so many beautiful 'accidents' that could never have been done on purpose. I love the serendipity and the magic of what the water does, where and how it decides to flow".
Born and raised in NYC, Nora has been living in Vermont since 1984, with a stretch in Ohio and other places in between. She has traveled the world, painting the myriad of people, places and animals she encounters. A classically trained realist, she finds inspiration in what she observes, but also infuses each work with a unique point of view. Her pastoral scenes are marked by vibrant colors and unusual, sometimes playful, compositions. These choices imbue each image with striking depth, mystery and optimism. There is a great variety of mark making and styles, from minimalist, to cartoony to more detailed.
Ms. Daniels has studied with Gustav Rehberger, Nelson Shanks, Jacob Collins, Michael Grimaldi. She has taught for and with Nelson Shanks at the Art Students League and at different workshops around the country. She is the recipient of prizes at the ASL and the National Academy and various best of shows. She has shown at the Forbes Gallery in NYC, Columbus Museum of Art, Riffe Gallery, Governor's Mansion in Columbus. Sharon Weiss Gallery, Marcia Evans and Haley Galleries.
