Talking Rural Economies with Congresswoman Becca Balint

Past event
Oct 31, 2024, 12 to 1:30 PM

Congresswoman Becca Balint and VT. State Representative Mike Mrowicki will host a "Roundtable Discussion" on Rural Economic Development at Noon on Oct. 31, at the Putney Firehouse Community Room, Rt. 5 in Putney VT.
The meeting is open to the public and all are welcome.

We've faced the closing of Putney Paper Mill/ Soundview, the Post Covid Economic reality for rural communities. and other workforce issues related to housing and other concerns.

Putney, like many other rural communities is facing strong headwinds on how to be more than just a bedroom community for larger towns.

How do we expand our small economic base and build a base that adds to the grand list and brings more revenue into the pockets of local citizens and our municipal government.

These issues are common across Vermont and the US.

As our Congresswoman in Washington, Becca Balint, is always working hard to stay connected to our local communities and bring that perspective to Congress.

Rep. Mrowicki , likewise works hard to keep connected with our community and to bring those community voices to Montpelier and to our policy makers in DC. He has been working for several months to get the Congresswoman to Putney, to hear from us, and give us a close up chance to hear from her .

The event will begin with a roundtable discussion with local officials and stakeholders as well as business leaders such as Adam Grinold of Brattleboro Development Credit Corporation and VT. State Treasurer Mike Pieciak. There will then be a time for other local citizens to share their questions and suggestions on helping grow a sustainable local economy in Rural America.
