All About Snowflakes on Sunday

Oct 27, 2024, 2 to 3:30 PM

Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley: His Life and Work will be presented by Sue Richardson on Sunday, October 27, 2024 at 2 PM at Jenna's House, 117 St. Johns Road, Johnson. For more than 40 years, Wilson A. Bentley photographed thousands of individual snowflakes. He made the first successful photograph of a snowflake in 1885. He perfected the innovative photomicrographic technique. He photographed more than 5,000 snow crystals before his death in 1931 in Jericho VT.

Sue Richardson is the great grandniece of Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley. She grew up in Jericho, about 3 miles from the farm where Wilson was born and lived out his life. Her presentation will focus not only on the extraordinary gift that her great grand uncle gave us through the beauty of his photographs, but also the struggles he faced in perfecting his process and in gaining acceptance from the scientific community, as well as among his family and friends. Through photographs, family stories, and his writings Richardson will introduce the audience to the personal side of Wilson "Snowflake" Bentley.

Co-sponsored by the Johnson Public Library and Johnson Historical Society, there will be sweet treats and it is free. Information at 802 635 7401.
