The average U.S. household produces more than 20 pounds of household hazardous waste every year, which breaks down to about 4 pounds per person (U.S. EPA). This includes a slew of materials such as paint, solvents, vehicle fluids, pesticides, herbicides, and household cleaners.
While some toxics are unavoidable and require special disposal through household hazardous waste collection events, others can be avoided entirely and replaced with simple, yet effective non-toxic alternatives.
Come visit us at the Varnum Memorial Library this Saturday, October 26th from 11AM-12PM where we will talk about the ins and outs of household cleaners, including how to read and understand labels, proper storage and disposal, and recipes for different non-toxic alternatives.
During the workshop, you will have the opportunity to make your lemon multi-purpose cleaner. Materials will be provided.
To register, email outreach@lrswmd.org or call (802)888-7317 ext. 406.
