Want to know more about Act 59, Vermont's newest conservation law, passed by the legislature in June 2023?
Act 59 establishes the goal of conserving 30% of the land of the state by 2030 and 50% by 2050.
Trey Martin, Director of Conservation on the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board, will speak about the law on Wednesday, Nov. 6 at 7:00 at the Memorial Building.
The VHCB is charged in the law with creating an inventory of currently conserved lands and developing a plan to implement the law.
Come and hear how Act 59, sometimes called "30 by 30 and 50 by 50", affects Hardwick. The law designates three levels of conservation. What are they?
How do citizens participate in these conservation goals? What do the goals mean for housing development? What does the law mean for private landowners?
Martin will present an overview of the law and take the audience's questions.
The Hardwick Conservation Commission welcomes everyone to learn more about Act 59 and sponsors this free event.
If you have questions for Trey Martin and cannot attend, please email HCC Co-chair Lucy Zendzian for a question form. (lucyzendzian@gmail.com) Questions will be forwarded to Martin to answer in his presentation. Vermont Community TV will film the presentation for viewing after the event.
