Personal Recollections of the CCC in Waterbury + Stowe

Oct 24, 2024, 1:30 to 2:30 PM

The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) was a New Deal-era massive environmental program created by President Franklin D. Roosevelt to provide jobs for young men and improve the country's public lands. Nearly 3 million young American men worked from 1933-1942 all over the US.

On Thursday, October 24 at 1:30 at the Richmond Free Library Brian Lindner of Waterbury will talk about some of thde work done by the CCC in VT. He lived in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) built base lodge at Stowe until he was ten. His father ran the CCC-built campground in Smugglers Notch and Lindner learned to ski on the CCC- cut trails at Stowe. Long aware of the CCC's influence in Vermont, Lindner's talk centers around the projects, big and small, that can still be seen in the Waterbury and Stowe areas. The talk will be illustrated with photographs from both the CCC era and later times.
