The 2024 General Conference of The United Methodist Church designated the Wolcott UMC as a Heritage Landmark of the denomination. That means that a local Historic Site of the UMC also has significance for the entire denomination - for our church, as far as can be determined, as the only white UMC in the United States that was actually organized by an African American, who then oversaw the construction of the building. The Rev. George S. Brown, Vermont's First Methodist African American Pastor, organized the congregation in 1855 and then oversaw the construction of the current building in 1856
The New England Conference Commission on Archives and Historic and the New England United Methodist Historical Society will be meeting here this coming Friday, October 25, and will end the day by dedicating the site at 3:00pm. A time of refreshments and fellowship will follow the dedication service.
Everyone is invited to join us for this most important event. if you have any questions, you may call/text Rev. Pat Thompson at 802-696-8373.
