The Stannard Camp of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War invites you to join us on Sunday, 20 Oct 2024, at the gravesite of Civil War hero Major General George J. Stannard in Lakeview Cemetery, 455 North Ave., Burlington, VT. Ceremonies, including a description of Stannard's military accomplishments, will commence at 1 pm and conclude by 3 pm. Stannard commanded the 2nd Vermont Brigade with distinction at the battle of Gettysburg and is a splendid example of the citizen soldiers who preserved the Union in the War of the Rebellion. This event is free. Stannard camp representatives can help you research your ancestors role in the Vermont units that served and provide information on joining the SUVCW, successor to the Grand Army of the Republic. Parking in the cemetery is limited and signs will lead visitors from the parking lot at the entrance to the grave. Some parking is available for those with limited mobility near the site of the ceremonies and a few seats will be provided.
