Discussion on Short-Term Closure of Briggs Hill

Oct 14, 2024, 6:30 PM

The Town of Bristol has notified us that they plan to discuss a short-term closure of Briggs Hill Rd at a Selectboard Meeting on Monday. Details will be posted to Bristol's corner of FPF, but we want affected Lincoln residents to be aware of this opportunity to learn more and have their voices heard in the decision-making process.

The meeting will take place at Holley Hall on 10/14, and this item will be taken up shortly after 6:30pm.

Bristol's Town Administrator has shared that the road cannot be safely plowed in its current condition, so they are proposing to close it at the end of October. Bristol has received an engineering estimate of more than $2M to repair the two landslides resulting from the July 2023 storms. Since then, the slope and uphill side of the road have continued to deteriorate.

We all recognize this is an important access to Lincoln, and emergency access is also a concern. The purpose of Monday's discussion is to reach a plan for winter. Another outcome of the meeting may be an idea of when and how the long-term future of Briggs Hill will be debated.

If you cannot attend the meeting but would like to have your email address shared with Bristol's Town Administrator for updates on the future of Briggs Hill, please send contact information to sbassistant@lincolnvermont.org and I will pass it on to Valerie Capels next week.
