Is translation a science, a skill or an art? It's all three and more. The mysterious process of transferring a book from one language and culture to another has been described as 'dancing in chains,' as 'working in a hall of mirrors', as 'kissing through a veil' or even as trying to catch an eel in one pond and put it in another.' On October 17, Allison Markin Powell and Tess Lewis will talk about the impossible art of translation and share insights from their recent work into the practicalities and ingenuities involved in bringing Japanese, French, and German books to English readers.
Books will be on hand for purchase and signing including Powell's just-released Gifted by Suzumi Suzuki and Lewis' new release Star 111 by Lutz Seiler. Email wildbookcompany@gmail.com for advance orders and to let us know you're coming!
