The 10th Annual Roger Dreher Memorial Blood Drive returns to Fletcher Elementary School this coming Saturday, October 12, 2024, from 8:30am to 2:00pm.

Our goal again this year is to collect 50 donations. The community response to our appeal has been wonderful!

As of October 9, only a few appointments remain: Whole Blood @ 9:00,11:30,12:45 and Power Red @12:00,12:30, 1:00,1:30.

If you are able to join us, sign up by Friday, October 11, at the latest. Go to the Red Cross website (https://www.redcrossblood.org/give.html/find-drive) to sign up for an appointment today. Just type DREHER as the Sponsor Code in the Find A Drive box.

Finally, some tips for a successful blood donation: Some foods you SHOULD eat for a couple of days before (and after) donating blood: • Iron-rich foods, such as lean meat, poultry, fish, shellfish, eggs and beans • Vitamin C, which can be found in citrus fruits and juices, cantaloupe, mangos, pineapples, berries, watermelons and tomatoes • Water or water-based hydration beverages (a full 16oz on donation day)

And some foods to AVOID before donating: • Fatty foods such as french fries or ice cream • Iron blockers which include coffee and tea, • High-calcium foods like milk, cheese and yogurt and chocolate • Aspirin • Alcohol
