You are invited to the Fall Update of the Chittenden Asylum Seekers Assistance Network (CASAN) on Tuesday, October 15 from 7:00-8:00pm via Zoom. Register below to receive the link.
Our grassroots non-profit group of volunteers in Chittenden County assists individuals and families who are in the legal process of seeking asylum. Asylum seekers, unlike refugees, are not allowed to receive most kinds of government benefits and need to wait to apply for a work permit, and so our group was formed in 2019 to assist such households.
It was a busy summer! We have celebrated with several families as they have received their work authorization papers as they pursue training and employment opportunities here in Vermont. For other families, new cars have been purchased with donated funds to make getting to jobs and child care more accessible. As an organization, we have welcomed new Board Members and continue to look for ways to expand our volunteer and fundraising abilities.
Join the Info Meeting to hear about your new neighbors who are building new lives here in Vermont. We are honored to share stories about the courageous people who receive "wrap-around" assistance, as well as others helped in other ways that provide a "bridge" on their journey toward asylum.
You'll also learn about the network of organizations here in Vermont who are working on issues impacting asylum seekers. And you'll become aware of current needs and ways support is needed – financially and through a wide range of volunteer activities.
