The Vermont Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) invites the public to comment on the Draft Passumpsic River Tactical Basin Plan. DEC developed this plan in collaboration with regional planners, local nonprofits, town officials, and public stakeholders to protect and restore the rivers, lakes, and wetlands in the Passumpsic River watershed.
The Tactical Basin Plan identifies actions and priority strategies that will: protect or improve water quality; restore aquatic habitats; improve flood resiliency, and prevent future pollution through cost-effective projects, including floodplain restorations, dam removals, and conservation.
DEC will hold a hybrid meeting with virtual and in-person options on October 22, 2024, at 5:30 PM. The meeting will be held at the Agency of Natural Resources office at 374 Emerson Falls Road, Caledonia Conference Room, St Johnsbury, VT 05819. Please park and enter on the left side of the building. The meeting can be attended virtually via Teams at a link available at: https://dec.vermont.gov/water-investment/watershed-planning/basins-and-planners/basin15. The draft plan and a link to a StoryMap summarizing the plan are also available at this same link.
The draft plan will also be discussed at NVDA's Executive Committee meeting on October 26th and at the Caledonia County Natural Resources Conservation District community meeting planned for the evening of November 7 with details at www.caledoniadistrict.org/locally-led.
