On October 11, 2024, at 7:00 pm, the Jerusalem School House in South Starksboro is the location for an illustrated talk on the history of Vermont Route 17. Johnathan Croft, Mapping Section Chief of the Vermont Agency of Transportation, will present the story of this important state route that starts on Lake Champlain in Addison and runs over the Green Mountains. Croft will talk about the Appalachian Gap and other mapping related information, including plotted maps, project plans, and more.
The program is presented by the Starksboro Historical Society and is free and open to the public. This historic one-room schoolhouse is located at 397 Jerusalem Road, just off VT Route 17, in South Starksboro. Please do not park in front of the fire station door. Bring a flashlight to use after the talk to get to your vehicle.
