The Vermont Democratic Party's Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Queer, Intersex, Plus (LGBTQI+) Caucus and the Windham County Democratic Committee are teaming up with Congresswoman Becca Balint (D-VT) this Wednesday, October 9, from 5:15 to 7:30pm to call voters in New Hampshire's 1st Congressional District in support of Vice President Kamala Harris and other Democratic candidates in New Hampshire, including Rep. Chris Pappas (D-NH), the first openly gay member of Congress from New Hampshire.

The stakes of next month's election could not be higher for our communities. For LGBTQI+ Vermonters, a second Trump presidency would be disastrous for our health and well-being.

The Heritage Foundation's Project 2025, the policy blueprint for a Trump administration, outlines a return to legal discrimination against LGBTQI+ Americans, the blocking of healthcare for transgender people, a ban against transgender people serving in the military, and a roll back of LGBTQI+ global equality initiatives. Project 2025 would remove LGBTQI-inclusive curricula from schools and prohibit transgender students from using their chosen names and pronouns. More broadly, Project 2025 outlines the dismantling of the Department of Education.

For the well being of all Americans, and people around the world, we need to keep Trump out of the White House and elect Democratic members of Congress. Vermonters of all identities and affiliations to join our event this Wednesday. We will use our voices in service of our families and loved ones whose rights and lives are on the line this November.

We have an amazing opportunity to help secure a victory for Congressman Pappas across the river in New Hampshire, who is a member of our LGBTQI+ community. And for Vice President Kamala Harris, who has been a steadfast ally. To secure the wins we need for everyday Americans – for housing, healthcare, the environment, good jobs, quality education and voting rights – we need to re-elect every Democratic member of Congress that we can. Vermont is not a swing state, but our voices can go far with our neighbors in New Hampshire. I encourage local residents to join us Wednesday to make some phone calls in a supportive environment and then to go out together to celebrate after. We are thrilled that Rep. Becca Balint will join us at our event.
