In May, the HHS hosted a lecture by Thomas C. Hubka on his book, Big House, Little House, Back House, Barn -- his study of why New England farmers linked their barns and dwellings through a series of working buildings and sheds, casting light on the creation of many of the farms in the rural area of Hardwick. Dr. Hubka's second book, How the Working-Class Home Became Modern, 1900–1940, explains why most of the houses in Hardwick village look the way they do. Come hear his explanation on October 21, at 7:00 at the Town House -- 127 Church Street, Hardwick, VT. The program is free and open to the public. The Town House is fully handicapped accessible -- and heated.
